PT Foundation – ISEAN/Hivos – Global fund

The Islands of Southeast Asia Network on MSM, TG, and HIV (ISEAN) and the Humanist Institute for Co-operation with Developing Countries (Hivos) jointly submitted a regional proposal to the Global Fund for AIDS, Malaria, and Tuberculosis (GFATM) Round 10 in 2010. The proposal has the main goal of reducing the: (a) Vulnerability and risks of men-who-have-sex-with-men (MSM) and transgender (TG) to HIV infection; and (b) Impact of HIV on their lives in the Islands of Southeast Asia. It intends to address critical gaps in supporting and scaling up activities that reduce HIV/AIDS among MSMs and TGs.

In Malayisa, ISEAN Hivos Programme (IHP) is on its transition to Phase 2. PT Foundation (PTF), as the Sub-Recipient (SR) of the grant, was tasked with engaging two (2) Sub-Sub-Recipients (SSRs) to help implement IHP.

Woodseer Consulting assisted the process by planning and conducting the assessment of the organizational capacities of the applicants as well as preparing a report for decision making. The work included on-site assessment. The applicants included 3 NGOs/CBOS who proved to do an amazing job in their own right and own field:

Malaysian AIDS Council

The Malaysian AIDS Council (MAC) was established in 1992 to serve as an umbrella organisation to support and coordinate the efforts of non-governmental and other organisations working on HIV/AIDS issues in Malaysia. MAC works in partnership with government agencies, the private sector and international organisations to ensure a committed and effective response to HIV/AIDS issues in Malaysia. – See more at: http://www.mac.org

Woodseer Consulting was engaged to revise the partners’ meeting of MAC to make it more participatory and to provide the participants with “tips” and techniques for effective peer education and outreach. Participants were representatives of partner CBOs – peer educators, outreach workers and managers/other staff members. The consultancy involved both training and facilitating.

 


CERIA – Centre of Excellence for Research In Aids

The Centre of Excellence for Research in AIDS (CERiA) was established in 2007 to respond to the need to better understand the Malaysian HIV epidemic, and to build local capacity in conducting HIV related research. Since its establishment, it has become the leading Centre in Malaysia conducting HIV-related research in various fields including epidemiology, social behavioural, clinical and laboratory based research. Woodseer Consulting was engaged to conduct a 4-day advocacy training for healthcare workers on reducing stigma against MSM and transgender people in healthcare settings in training called: “Approaching Key Populations for Health Care Services: MSM and Transgender Module”.

 


WABA and IBFAN

The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) is a global network of individuals and organisations concerned with the protection, promotion & support of breastfeeding worldwide.
The International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN) is a network of public interest groups working around the world to reduce infant and young child morbidity and mortality.
WABA and IBFAN together implement the programme ‘Protecting, Promoting and Supporting Breastfeeding through Human Rights and Gender Equality:  A Global project for Coordinated Action to Achieve MDGs 4 and 5’, which is funded by the Swedish development agency Sida. For more information on WABA’s work see http://www.waba.org.my/ and for more information on IBFAN see http://ibfan.org/ 

Woodseer  Consulting was commissioned to carry out an end of cycle evaluation of the programme components carried out by WABA, IBFAN GIFA and IBFAN Asia.  Feedback on the evaluation included “we thank you for presenting such an accurate picture of our work and for your analysis. It will be very helpful for our work – a mirror much needed to look into for better understanding of where we are and where we want to go”.


MSF ACCESS CAMPAIGN

In 1999, in the wake of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, MSF launched the Access Campaign. Its purpose has been to push for access to, and the development of life-saving and life prolonging medicines, diagnostic tests and vaccines for patients in MSF programmes and beyond.

Woodseer Consulting provided services to define an international consultative process for the Acces Campain three year strategic plan including the production of an online survey, of various interview guidelines and of reporting tools. Woodseer contribution was essential to guarantee a systematic, broad and open consultation through a strong process in more than 10 countries

Woodseer Management Consulting is supporting Mercy’s fundraising and communication departments with business planning, fund-raising strategy and implementation. Since the beginning of 2012, we are focusing on helping Mercy Malaysia to develop a fundraising campaign to attract the support of individuals in Malaysia. This is a new area of development for Mercy Malaysia. Our collaboration with Mercy started in 2011 and is planned to last until the end of 2013.


PHBI, Indonesia and FPOP, The Philippines

PKBI and FPOP are long established reproductive health organization in Indonesia and the Philippines. Both organizations are  nationwide organizations of professional and community-based volunteers. They have chapters in many provinces or rations across their countries. They provide reproductive health services and inform and educate communities about SRHR, especially the poor, marginalized, socially excluded and undeserved.  Information about these two fantastic organizations can be found here:

Under a program finance by IPPF, Woodseer Consulting contributed to help both organizations identify, priorities and structure their fundraising strategies. The core of the work was organized around two workshops that were sponsored by IPPF as both organizations are member association of IPPF. These were very challenging exercises due to the nature of the services delivered and because it was the first time these two organizations were made to think in a strategic manner about their fundraising. It ended as one of our most exiting jobs.

IPPF

IPPF is a worldwide movement providing reproductive health and family planning services in over 180 countries. IPPF ESEAOR, based in Kuala Lumpur is the regional office of IPPF for East, South East Asia and Oceania. It covers a population of 2 billions through a network of member  associations in 22 countries.

IPPF believes that sexual and reproductive rights should be guaranteed for every one because they are basic human right. Woodseer Management Consulting is proud to be associated to such a great and worthy cause. More information on IPPF ESEAOR is available on their website.

Woodseer Management Consulting provided support and coaching to the resource mobilization team of IPPF ESEAOR to develop a three year strategy for resource mobilization. Following the approval of the strategy by IPPF management, IPPF has confirmed their  trust in our services by reappointing Woodseer Consulting to help organize and facilitate resource mobilization strategic meetings in four member associations in the region. Our collaboration with IPPF started in 2011 and is planned to continue till the end of the 2012.

Since its creation in 1981, MSF Swiss has become one of the most dynamic divisions of the MSF movement and is the leading division in the operations centre in Geneva, one of the five MSF operational centres worldwide.  It oversees MSF work in about 40 countries around the world. Following the success of  the 2011 contribution, Woodseer Management Consulting was asked for the third time to lead the organization and facilitate of the Head of Mission Week of the OCG. The Head Of Mission week is a crucial strategic moment in the annual life of the OCG as Country Directors gather in the Geneva headquarters to discuss operational challenges and the future direction of the organization.


PT Foundation – ISEAN/Hivos – Global fund

In 2010, the Insular Southeast Asian Network on MSM, TG, and HIV (ISEAN) and the Humanist Institute for Co-operation with Developing Countries (Hivos) jointly submitted a regional proposal to the Global Fund for AIDS, Malaria, and Tuberculosis (GFATM) Round 10.

The programme, entitled ‘Strengthening Community Systems to Reduce Vulnerability to and Impact of H TG CBOs IV infection on MSM and TG in Insular Southeast Asia’, was approved by GFATM and contract for the grant was signed on 6 October 2011. This grant has the main goal of reducing (a) the vulnerability and risks of MSM and TG to HIV infection and (b) the impact of HIV on their lives in Insular Southeast Asia.

It intends to address critical gaps in supporting and scaling up activities that reduce HIV/AIDS among MSMs and TGs. PT Foundation was the sub recipient of the grant in Malaysia.
Woodseer Management Consulting was appointed as the lead consultant to establish a National Network of MSM & TG CBOs and was tasked with:

1.    Developing a toolkit to assess the capacity of MSM & TG community based organizations (CBOs)
2.    Formulating the National Network(s) of MSM & TG CBOs Charter
3.    Developing activity design for the National Network of MSM & TG CBOs Inception Meeting
4.    Facilitating the conduct of the consultative workshops and of the National Network of MSM TG CBOs Inception Meeting.


Seksualiti Merdeka

Seksualiti Merdeka is a Malaysian group of activists that fight for equal rights and dignity for all regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity. It is often caricatured as an “LGBT” rights group and this has a negative perception in Malaysia. Indeed, despite the apparent modernity of Malaysian society, their core mission challenges many traditional and religious beliefs. Moreover, some authorities seemingly condone or justify homophobic and transphobic violence, abuse and harassment. This is the case for transsexuals who reported regular physical harassment, including by authorities.

 
As part of the ISEAN/Hivos programme to strengthening community systems to reduce vulnerability to and impact of HIV infection on MSM and TGs in Insular South East Asia, Woodseer Management Consulting conducted a series of strategic workshops to assist SM in elaborating a vision and mission as well as a an action plan for the organization.

MSF Operational Center OCBA

The MSF Operational Center OCBA is mostly composed of the Greek and Spanish sections of MSF. Based in Barcelona and Athens, OCBA is one of the five MSF operational centers that runs medical operations across the world and it is the smallest of the five. As a continuation of our work in October 2009 where we drafted a vision paper on the development of OCBA into an international operational network, Woodseer Management Consulting was approach by the management of OCBA to develop a management structure and operational planning process for this operational network.

The Safe Clinic

The Safe Clinic is a new and unique organisation supporting the HIV/AIDS response in Malaysia.  As the only Community Clinic in Kuala Lumpur offering low cost sexual health and HIV/AIDS medical services to the Most at Risk Populations (MARPS) .  These invaluable services include anonymous HIV/AIDS and STI counselling, screening and treatment  as well as HIV treatment and care.

Woodseer Management Consulting has provided specific business and management advises to the Directors of the Safe Clinic from its onset, and has been specifically commissioned to write up fund-raising proposal and fundraising management support on an ongoing basis.


MSF International and MSF India

MSF is an independent humanitarian medical aid agency committed to two objectives: providing medical aid wherever needed, regardless of race, religion, politics or sex and raising awareness of the plight of the people we help.

Based in Geneva, MSF international is the international office of Medecins Sans Frontieres whose web site is accessible here.

Based in Delhi, MSF India is a new entity which the MSF movement is developing currently.

Woodseer Management Consulting has been engaged by the MSF International Office to facilitate two high level meetings in Geneva and Delhi.  In Geneva, we facilitated an international meeting of  MSF executives and boards members to decide on the future shape of the association of MSF volunteers and governance reform.

In Delhi, we facilitated a strategic brain storm session to map out the future of MSF India with MSF managers from India and from different MSF sections regionally, as well as stakeholders and representatives from Indian civil society.

In October 2010, Woodseer Management Consulting was asked to conduct a review of the MSF Switzerland management model to identify areas (process – system – people) where changes and improvement could be planned and implemented quickly to streamline its functionality. The study was carried out using an adaptation of the the Total Quality Management Model (TGM).


Redi Centre

The Regional Emerging Diseases Intervention (REDI) Center is a research and training organization founded Singapore and the United States to enhance the region’s capability and capacity to deal with emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases such as avian influenza and SARS. In August 2010, Woodseer Management Consulting was approach by the REDI Center to strengthen their team for a project financed by the US Department of Defense. This project is a thorough analysis of the capacity of 8 countries in South East Asia to respond to Biological Threats whether intentional such as terrorist attacks or non intentional such as H1N1. Woodseer input on this project is  two-fold – based both on its core strategic analytical capacities and on in its expertise in medical emergency preparedness and response. The project run until August 2011 and involved numerous meetings and interviews with medical experts and officials in the region.
